Royal Kat Monday - A Recipe for Cute

I hope you are enjoying your long weekend.  We are headed up to our local parade today which my kids all LOVE.  Nothing better then sitting outside watching the youngest scouts, high school bands and Veterans all marching together.

You should have hopped here from Wynneth's blog, if not you will want to go back to the Queen Kat Designs Blog so you can catch all the inspiration.  This week we were to make anything but a card.  I have had this idea floating in my head and finally took the time to make it.  I unmounted my rubber stamps this winter and saved all the wood blocks.  I used one of the larger blocks and turned it into a recipe card holder.  I have visions of using other blocks for photo holders.

Stamps: Cookie the Baker

Red White and Blue Thinking of You - Operation Write Home Memorial Day Weekend Blog Hop

Welcome to my little stop on this wonderful blog hop.  What a great way to celebrate our Veterans and Heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice, while also celebrating such a fantastic organization like Operation Write Home which helps our current Heroes stay in touch with loved ones.  If you just happened upon my post here, you will want to go back to Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps Blog and check out all the activities for today.  I'll wait.........

Welcome back.

The following song seems to sum up Memorial Day to me.

Some Gave All by Billy Ray Cyrus

I knew a man called him Sandy Kane
Few folks even knew his name
But a hero was he
Left a boy, came back a man
Still many just don't understand
About the reasons we are free

I can't forget the look in his eyes

Or the tears he cries
As he said these words to me

All gave some and some gave all

And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all

Now Sandy Kane is no longer here

But his words are oh so clear
As they echo through out our land
For all his friends who gave us all
Who stood the ground and took the fall
To help their fellow man

Love your country and live with pride

And don't forget those who died America can't you see

All gave some and some gave all

And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all

And if you ever think of me

Think of all your liberties and recall, yes recall
Some gave all

Some gave all

I have been aware of Operation Write Home since they started, but only recently started sending my cards directly to them.  In the past I have contributed when groups I belong to were gathering cards to mail to OWH, but for some reason I just never sent any cards on my own.  When I saw that Dixie stated her shelves were bare a while back I went through my stash and sent 50 cards out right away.  I then hosted a card making day and sent another 285 earlier this month.  I now have a box on my desk that I can add cards to and when I have it filled up I will mail it off again.

Here are a few cards that will be in the next box:

Does that card look familiar?  I was honored when they asked me to make a sample for the Stars and Stamps Blog today.  How cool is that?

Love this Love Bug set from Unity Stamp Company.  Isn't that car great?  I recycled a pair of my husband's work jeans and free handed the images on it and was lucky enough to find the perfect ribbon to go with the feel of this card.  I used a bit of crystal effects on the window, lights and chrome areas of the car to make them really shiny and stand out a bit.

Did you know that OWH has challenges?  If you ever need inspiration for your card making they have several challenges through the week on the Stars and Stamps Blog:  http://www.owhstarsandstamps.org/   Pretty cool huh?

Now hop on over to Ellen at http://tinktime-tink.blogspot.com  and see what kind of cute cute cute stuff she has created today.

Have a great weekend.

Royal Kat Monday - Art Deco

Happy Monday!  You should have hopped here from Wynneth's blog, if you are starting here you will want to go back to the beginning at the Queen Kat Designs Blog.

Here is my art deco inspired card.
My card is based on this inspiration:
Art deco design is characterized by the use of chrome and symmetrical tiers.  On my card I used a metallic pink card stock in the back and I tiered my layers to mimic the design of the buildings in the art piece.  I love that the mother in this image is also reminiscent of that 1920's feel, which is when art deco design was in it's height.

Details
Stamps: Mommy 2
Paper: Rich Razzelberry, White, Green at Heart-BasicGrey, metallic pink
Ink:  Copic Markers

Now you need to hop on over to see what Keely has for you.

Friday Fun and a Sinful Blog Hop

Hi all!  This week I have a twofer for you.  It's a double hop, our regularly scheduled Friday Fun Challenge and a new line of stamps released from Queen Kat Designs called Sin Bonnet Sue.

Kim is our hostess this month and has given us this picture to as an inspiration piece.

A very yummy picture.  I wanted to use the colors as inspiration and came up with this:
Do you see that ribbon?  I just got it this week....you know how I like my ribbon and May Arts makes some great ribbons.

And another sample using TV Sue:

The Hubs was getting rid of some old work jeans and I decided to recycle them.  It really confused my kids why was I cutting up daddy's pants? hehe.  I think they look pretty good on this card.  I also used a small piece of the fabric to add some texture to the chair making it look like a nice worn denim chair.

If you want to see more Sin Bonnet Sue samples (she is quite the character and gets herself in a lot of trouble ;) ) please check out the rest of Queen Kat blogs that are hopping today and then go to the store.  All rubber will be 10% off and acrylic stamps still in stock will be 60% off through Monday.

Friday Fun Challenge- Buggin' Out

April Showers bring May Flowers...what do May Flowers bring?  Butterflies and bees!  Make a card with an insect on it.

Here is my card this week.
I couldn't find a butterfly I really wanted to use, so the "butterfly" I used is actually a flower from the Lotus Spellbinders Die.  I think by adding the pearls down the middle it works.  I also bought a yoyo maker last weekend and made these cute little fabric flowers, so I HAD to use them on my card as well.

Details
Stamps: Baroque Motifs
Paper: Old Olive, White, Rich Razzelberry, Cottage Wall DSP
Ink: Old Olive
Accessories: Purple sheer fabric, Flat pearls, Stardust Gel Pen,  Spellbinders-Lotus die

While I was pondering this card earlier this week, the twins happened to come home from school with this project on Wednesday.
I asked the other Friday Fun Chicks but they wouldn't let me use the twins beehives as my project this week, but I still wanted to show them off.  :)

Now go check out what the other Friday Fun Chicks have done:

Friday Fun Challenge- Flowers for Mom

This week Kim challenged us to make handmade flowers.  No Prima's or store bought flowers on our projects. I had fun playing with this.  Here are a few of my prototype flowers:

I kind of winged it with the white flower and just twisted and turned until I had a little rose.  Pretty cool huh?

For my project I found this quote and had to make a card to go with it. "A suburban mother's role is to deliver children obstetrically once, and by car forever after."  ~Peter De Vries  My kids aren't quite to that stage yet, but I know it's coming.  I think this may be a cute card to give to some of my neighbors.
I think I am the last one to post today.  Please be sure to leave some love at all the other FFC Blogs.
Check out the rest of the Friday Fun Girls:

We would love to see your hand made flowers too, so give us a link here in the comments.
