A year of LESS

Some friends of mine were discussing their word of the year for 2010 and I thought it sounded like a great idea.  My word for this coming year is LESS.

Less Weight (don't we all say this?)
Less Clutter
Less Mess
Less Aggravation with the Kids and more playing
Less Spending
Less Procrastination

So far I am doing well.  I have had a tummy bug that is helping me with the weight :) My wonderful husband went to Ikea on New Years Eve and bought some new items to help with the clutter and the mess AND has already built/installed them all.  I actually planned out our dinner menu this week to make grocery shopping LESS expensive and have used some of my pantry items so there is LESS.  This first week is a success....so far.  Just to keep me on track for the rest of the year I decided to make a little magnetic calendar with my word of the year on it.  I can keep it on my stamp desk to remind me of my goals. 

I stamped the square image from the Priceless stamp set in Melon Mambo and then inked up just the last for letters of the word Priceless from that same set using Rich Razzelberry.  I think it looks like that was the word all along.  It may not be the most spectacular thing ever, but I am really happy with it.

Friday Fun Challenge #43

After taking last week off while some of the Friday Fun Girls were at CHA we are back this week and welcoming back Sara to our ranks. Sara had back surgery and has not been in her craft room lately, but she is coming back and we are glad to have her with us and she even gets to be the Friday Fun Hostess this month.

This week our challenge is to BLING IT UP!

I just saw the tutorial for Shadow Box cards a few weeks ago and decided to play around with one. As I was making it and had the inside of the window already cut out, I decided I could just as easily make it a pocket card as well, otherwise where would you sign it?

So where do I start explaining this one? I cut the window/insert with my Cricut. I stamped the Circle Circus images and punched the larges circles with the scallop punch and used my paper snips to cut the rest of the pieces. I need more small circle punches. I used the Copic airbrush and Y19 to add some more color to the images, and then sponged Rich Razzelberry around the edges. I also used my Copics to color some white grosgrain ribbon before tying it onto the pull out tag.

I added more accents with the white flurishes from the Priceless set and used my rhinestone brads to add the final details in the center of the circles and layering it all with dimensionals.

I was invited to participate in a cookie exchange with my neighbors, and since I am the new kid on the block I really wanted to WOW them. First, I made some yummy snowball cookies shown here.


Then I had to make a card to share the recipe.


I used this weeks Sketch Challenge from SplitCoastStampers.com always an easy way to make a great card. The base is Soft Sky, and the next layer is stamped with Not Quite Navy and Groovy Guava on Very Vanilla layered on Not Quite Navy card stock. I used the flourishes from Priceless as all my images. The next layer is some Groovy Guava Prints DP layered on Really Rust card stock. Who knew that Really Rust was the compliment to Groovy Guava? Again I stamped the flourish with Not Quite Navy on Very Vanilla and mounted it on Not Quite Navy card stock and then tied some groovy guava stitched ribbon around the image. I finished the card with 3 silver brads on a word window punchout. I used my slit punch on the inside and slid a 3x5 index card with the cookie recipe inside. I figured the neighbors could then use the card for any occasion they would like.

Cookie Recipe:

Snowball Cookies
2 cups all purpose flour 2 cups finely chopped pecans ¼ cup sugar	1 cup butter softened 1 teaspoon vanilla Powdered Sugar
Preheat oven to 325* Yield 3 dozen In large mixing bowl combine all ingredients except powdered sugar. Beat at low speed until well mixed. Shape rounder teaspoonfuls of dough into 1” balls. Place 1” apart on cookie sheets. Bake for 18-25 minutes until lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes. Roll in powdered sugar while still warm and again when cool.
