Royal Kat Monday - Scary Monsters in My House

Welcome to the Royal Kat Monday Blog Hop.  If you landed here from Steph's blog you are right on track, if not, you will want to go back to the Queen Kat Designs Blog so you don't miss a thing along the way.  This week we were to  make a banner.  I have made a few banners before in different shapes, but today I decided to go with the pennant shape.  Since I don't have a die for this I decided to go freehand and I am thrilled with the results.
Those are my 3 scary monsters with the adorable monsters available in the Queen Kat Designs Store for 40% off.  That is an incredible deal for some really cute stamps.  Now head on over to see what Keely has created and have a GREAT week!

Friday Fun Spring Colors Challenge

Good Morning!  It is a gloomy rainy day here and I know some areas have been hit with snow this first week of spring, but lets get rid of the gray skies with a springy color challenge.
My challenge this week is to use:

Certainly Celery
Barely Banana
Bashful Blue

Here is what I came up with using my March Unity Kit of the Month.  I resisted the temptation for so very long, but I finally did it.  I love the art work and the quality of the stamps so it wasn't a difficult decision, I just had to do it and now I am so happy I did.

Here is a closer look at the butterfly.  I paper pieced his body and LOVE it!
This card also fits for the All Things Unity blog challenge to Go Green on your card.  I not only used the color green but not a single full sheet of paper was cut into.  Shocking for some, but I am cheap, so I am actually green with my cards all the time :)

Now fly on over and check out what the other lovely ladies have done today.

Royal Kat Monday-The Queen's Bed

Welcome to this week's Royal Kat Monday Blog Hop.  You should have landed here from Steph's blog, if you just started here then you will want to go back to the beginning to see Nancy post at the QKD blog.

This week we had this picture for inspiration.

Here is my take on it.  I seem to always have the perfect paper for these inspiration challenges.

The two striped panels are supposed to be like the beds and the dotted background reminded me of the pillows.

Operation Write Home Spring Blog Hop

Welcome to my stop on the Operation Write Home Spring Break Blog Hop.  To start at the beginning of the hop please go to http://www.owhstarsandstamps.org as you are not going to want to miss a single card or see what everyone else is up to.  If you have already been hopping along you should have come to me from Allison's blog.

After a long cold winter here in Maryland, the snow from the early February storms is almost all melted  (yes, I still spotted some in the store parking lot yesterday, CRAZY) and some of the spring bulbs have started to bloom.  To go from snow to flowers and shorts in under a week is wild, but that's Maryland.  I was so inspired by the little daffodils blooming outside the back door, I used them as a jumping off spot for my card.

OK, when I am creating for OWH I try to make more than card at a time.  So here is the trio ready to go along with several other cards in my stash.

Stamps: GinaK
Paper: So Saffron, Old Olive, Perhaps-BasicGrey, White

Now the Big Announcement.  In order to restock the shelves at Operation Write Home I am holding a Card Making Blitz at my home on May 1.  If you are in Maryland or Southern Pennsylvania or even DE, NY, NJ you are more than welcomed to join me for a day of card making.  My goal is to fill a box for the soldiers, but wouldn't 2 boxes be even better.  For more information please contact me at MelenaPrincess at hotmail.com (you know the deal, replace the at with @, I'm just trying to avoid some spam.)

Now hop on over to Seongsook's Sea Garden to see her wonderful creations.  She has such a nice clean style, everything she has is just eye catching.

Friday Fun Chocolate Challenge

This is American Chocolate Week March 15-21 and today is National Chocolate Caramel Day.  You can use chocolate colors or images or anything else that makes you think of this wonderful confection.

National Confectioner's Association website:  http://www.candyusa.com/index.cfm

Fun Facts About Chocolate

  • Chocolate is America's favorite flavor. A recent survey revealed that 52 percent of U.S. adults said they like chocolate best. The second favorite flavor was a tie (at 12 percent each) between berry flavors and vanilla.
  • U.S. chocolate manufacturers currently use 40 percent of the almonds produced in the United States and 25 percent of domestic peanuts.
  • U.S. chocolate manufacturers use about 3.5 million pounds of whole milk every day to make chocolate.
  • Sixty-five percent of American chocolate eaters prefer milk chocolate.
  • The melting point of cocoa butter is just below the human body temperature (98.6 degrees) — which is why it literally melts in your mouth.
  • Older children are significantly more likely to prefer chocolate than younger children (59 percent of 9-11year-olds prefer chocolate vs. 46 percent of 6-8 year-olds), according to an NCA survey.

You all know that I love Inky Antics, and here is another one of their stamps which is perfect for this card.  I also know quite a few people who are currently dieting, so this is for them (you know who you are.)  The nice thing about this stamp is that it is actually 3 stamps.  I stamped the image first and then laid the two phrases on top of the image and put my acrylic block on top of them, no guessing about where each needed to go and I stamped the words once instead of having to line up twice.  You could also use some o f the images of chocolate or cake in that space and put the second part of the sentiment on the inside.  I love the diversity of this set.  So many ways to make it look like that is how it was supposed to be.

Be sure to check out the other Friday Fun Girl's and if you would like to play along, just leave a comment with a link to your post.

In Style Stamps Wednesday Green Challenge

It's Hula Days over at In Style Stamps.  See that cute little blinkie on the side of my blog???  Follow it to In Style Stamps and grab your own and you can get a free Leila Digi Image just like I did.  She is ADORABLE.  I have been following the festivities over at ISS and saw the cutest idea on Taylor's blog yesterday, she cut up a cheep  bamboo window shade  to use as a layer on her card.  Today I was out at Bed Bath and Beyond and found some great bamboo place mats for $1.99 each and cut one up for my card.  Thanks for the inspiration!  The Wednesday Challenge is to show just a hint of green in your cards for St Patrick's Day.  Here is my card:

Friday Fun Challenge-Back to Basics

Hi all!  I am the hostess this month for our Friday Fun Challenge.  I had so much fun with Sherry's challenge last month I decided to do a Back to Basics Challenge as well.  This week make a card with NO COLORING.  Get out your solid stamp images and colored ink pads and stamp on your card.  Extra points if you even STAMP your background and don't use any patterned paper.  Don't break out in a cold sweat, we can do this ;)

I didn't go for the extra credit....I used patterned paper, but it was kinda hard for me to find a stamp to use. I am so used to coloring now that I guess I don't buy many solid image stamps.  It was fun though to just use ink and a stamp.

I actually combined a few challenges here.  I used the SC270, C4C26 to use at least 3 textures on your card (cuttlebug, satin ribbon, metal brads. flat cs) , And the Fussy and Fancy Friday Challenge to use a movie as a theme (can you guess my movie?)

Stamps: Beware Pirates-Stampin' Up!
Paper: White, Bermuda Bay, Rich Razzelberry, Rock Star Stack
Ink: Rich Razzelberry
Accessories: Brads, Ribbon, Branches Cuttlebug Folder

You should have hopped here from Steph's blog if not you will want to go back to the Queen Kat Designs Blog to start the hop from the beginning because you aren't going to want to miss a thing.

I'm Mad as a Hatter about the upcoming releases for Queen Kat Designs this Wednesday.  I was lucky enough to be asked to create my card this week with the new Wonderland Friends set.  Can you guess what some of the images in this set may be?  Yup, Alice and the Red Queen, 2 sentiments and the mad Hatter.  Fun! Fun! Fun!  Here is this weeks sketch:

I had to slightly modify the sketch to fit my images, but it's pretty close.
