VSN Olympic Weekend

If you are looking for some challenges to play along with this weekend, head on over to SplitcoastStampers where you will find a new challenge posted every hour.

This is for the Feb VSN I to make a card following the given sketch, using music as a theme and completing the inside of the card as well.  I made this card for my brother who thinks he is a rock star.  I will eventually complete the inside with it saying something like "party like a rock star on your birthday...old timer."

Friday Fun FairyTale

Feb 26th   is Tell a Fairy Tale Day….so choose your favorite Fairy Tale and make a card based on it.  Show me your Princesses, Dragons, or anything Magical.

I used these cute stamps from Never Ever by The Greeting Farm with images from Peter Pan.  The first time my girls saw these images they knew immediately who Peter Pan and Tinker Bell were, but insisted that the below image was Jane (Wendy's daughter) and not Wendy.  Yes, we know all these stories very well.

As I was working on this card it seemed cute enough, but before I put it all together it dawned on me that I could take this one step further.

Yup, Wendy (or Jane) slides out to be used as a bookmark.  I have magnets on the inside of the bookmark so that it wont slip out of the book, a trick I learned very early in my stamping days and have used ever since.  I don't know why all bookmarks aren't magnetic.

Friday Fun PURPLE

This week our Friday Fun Challenge is to make a card with purple as the main color.  I love purple so this was easy.  I also love these little ladies from Inky Antics.  Inky Antics is from Cleveland, OH, my home town, and these ladies remind me of so many of the people I knew growing up, purple eye shadow and all.

Royal Court Monday Blog Hop- I Still Love You

Welcome to the Queen Kat Designs Royal Kat Monday Blog Hop.  You should have arrived here from Steph's blog, if you have not been hopping along you can start back at the QKD blog so you don't miss a thing. The challenge for today is to use the colors red, aqua and chocolate brown.  I made this card as The Hubs Valentine, but he told me long ago not to make him cards because he knows he doesn't respect them properly, so instead I make him cards and just don't sign them.  That way he can see it and I can put it in the box to donate to Operation Write Home and then the card can be enjoyed by another soldier.

Happy Valentine's Day

I made this Valentine banner a few weeks ago and have been saving it to show you all.   Nothing is stamped, I just used my Cricut to cut the letters and the scallops.  I added some White Gel Pen to make the letters pop more, a few packs of Valentine's Stickers to embellish with, old Large Heart eyelets from Stampin' Up! and strung it on Red polka dot ribbon.  I have plenty of extra ribbon there so I can hang it wherever I want.

Friday Fun-Lincoln's Birthday

Sorry this is a little late in the day.  I have been snow bound all week, which you would think would mean more stamp time, but really it meant that I spent most of the last week either about to go out to shovel snow, shoveling snow, or resting after having just shoveled snow.   Add to that being cooped up with three munchkins and I didn't get much done at all.  Today is the first day in a week that I have not picked up a shovel yet (I will need to do so in order to widen the driveway before The Hubs gets home tonight,  but right now I am enjoying some time off.)

And now this week's Friday Fun

Happy Birthday Mr President!  In honor of Abraham Lincoln's Birthday, we were to make a masculine birthday card.   I bet you thought it would be a Valentine theme this week.  Not with these Chickies!

What a simple little fun card.  I used SCS Sketch Challenge #266 and used some buttons as the layers 4a and 4b.  I added the additional buttons just as a design element.  I like how the buttons scattered around the card mimic the confetti flying through the air.
Don't forget to check out what the other Friday Fun Chicks have done and post a link in the comments here if you get a chance to play along with us.

Friday Fun Back to Basics

Sherry is the hostess for February and has issued a real challenge for us this week.
Back to Basics- Remember when you first started stamping and all you had was card stock, ink and stamps? it’s time to put away our fancy toys and patterned paper and make a card with the very basics.
So for this challenge you are limited to the following:
Stamps: As many as you like
Ink: up to 3 colors (not counting black or brown)
Paper: up to 3 colors of card stock plus one neutral;  NO patterned paper.
Coloring medium: You can use ONE coloring medium (markers, pastels, pencils, etc.)
Embellishments:  ONE kind.  You can use more than one of the same kind…(5 brads, two ribbons, etc.) but only ONE kind.
NO Nestabilities but punches are ok.

Yikes!  I'm not sure I can make a card without patterned paper.  I decided to CASE an old card of mine which was a favorite.  I just changed up the colors a little and here we go.

Details

Stamps: Balmy Breezes, Canvas
Paper:  Watercolor Paper, More Mustard, Ruby Red, Old Olive
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black
Accessories: Watercolor Pencils, Blender Pen, Square Eyelets

Be sure to check out the fabulous creations by the other Friday Fun Chicks.

We are expecting 20-30" of snow this weekend so this Palm Tree will make me think warm thoughts.  I hope to get a lot of stamping time in, but I think I will be spending a lot of time outside shoveling and sledding with the kids.
